Tactics-Specific Game Analysis

I discovered very quickly in my attempts to analyze my own games that it was difficult for me to determine what I should be spending time on and what I shouldn’t. After completing my “chess reset” I wrote of in a previous post, it suddenly occurred to me that if post-game analysis is meant to help identify mistakes and weaknesses and discover the best moves in a given position, and if one of my glaring weaknesses is my tactical play, then it seems obvious that my post-game analysis should focus on tactical blunders first and positional considerations second.

I feel like an idiot because, had I realized all of this sooner, I think my progress would be much further along in my playing strength as well as the amount and type of information I can glean from post-game analysis. I’m anxious to see if this tactics-based approach will be as helpful as I hope.
